10/11/2018 0 Comments We're Back! After a long, arduous move and subsequent re-establishing of our colonies, we are finally back in full swing. We have acquired a lot of new species, particularly in the way of isopods. We have also added a small selection of substrates...the very substrates we use here at Darwin's Toybox for our colonies and specimens. So, with that, our website is back up, though there will still be updates rolling out over the next week or so, and hopefully plenty of new pictures to come shortly after that.

9/4/2017 0 Comments Moving! So, the time has come for us to move to a new location. We will be relocating from northern New Jersey to Staten Island, New York. This will come with some temporary down sides, but some long term benefits.
For the down side, we won't be shipping until at least fall of 2017 while we get everything moved over. We normally don't ship during the hottest parts of the summer, but this will still extend our "no shipping" season this year. We also reduced the size of many of our invertebrate colonies prior to the move to make it easier, as all invertebrates will be getting new housing. For the up side, this move is going to give us more than double our current space, especially for our livestock. This means we will begin to build up a larger assortment of reptiles, invertebrates, and plants. Plants in particular will see a notable increase in selection, so stay tuned for harder to find varieties of carnivorous plants, a nice selection of orchids, and an assortment of other popular vivarium plants like Marcgravia, aroids, ferns, and more! We will still be vending shows during this time, so the list will remain active, and pickups can be arranged either locally or at the shows. Hope to hear from you soon! 12/27/2016 0 Comments Holiday updateSo the holidays have come and gone, and shipping should be back to normal soon. Please be aware that for any livestock, while I do ship in insulated boxes with heat packs...use common sense when evaluating your temperatures. I do not generally guarantee live arrival under 20F.
Some new inverts have been added, including some unique isopod varieties. The selection will continue to increase through spring. Most breeding has halted for the year, so additional animals will likely not be available until late spring. Once I have gotten pictures of some of the new invertebrates available, focus will be given to fossil and mineral availability. The aim will be to make available the moderately priced specimens for online customers, though some of the more inexpensive items may be added in time. Thanks for the patience, and enjoy! 11/24/2016 0 Comments Site is up!It has been quite some time since first planned, but we finally have an initial website up and running! This initial post will be mostly introductory, and lay out some of what this site will be about.
First, the pages available on this site concerning animals, plants, invertebrates, etc. are for representation of the animals and plants we work with and have available. They are intended as galleries to give you an idea of the species we work with (all animals pictured will either be offspring we have/had or our breeders...plants will be varieties that we make available, though not all may be available at all times). Please message us with any specific questions regarding current availability, as it can often change daily, and radically so after any of our listed shows we vend. This is one of the reasons we do not currently offer an online cart option. In terms of reptile keeping, we primarily promote the use of bioactive vivaria to house reptile and invertebrate species. As this site matures, these blog posts will address many of the common questions, concerns, and misconceptions involving the establishment and use of bioactive enclosures. In the meantime, we are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding these methods. For those of you who have been customers to us, either online or at expos, thank you! We love what we do here, and we hope you do, too! |
